Adult Education

English as a Second Language

Spring Valley United Methodist Church provides English as a Second Language classes for adults. Instruction is free, and free baby-sitting is provided, but each student is expected to buy a book for $20. Classes are held at the church, which is located near the intersection of Spring Valley Road and Coit Road, between 6:30 and 8:00 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. NSC supports recruitment of participants and is a source of information on other ESL classes in the area, among them those given by Richland College.

Job Skills Training

NSC continues to work with Richland College to provide area residents with information and access to job skills training. Richland’s Skills Training Center provides services including free skills training, childcare, transportation, and job placement for area residents who meet low-income guidelines, who are unemployed or under employed, dislocated workers, or others with employment disadvantages.

In addition, Richland provides area youth and young adults opportunities to learn in a relaxed and enriching educational setting.
