Soccer
Start League
Teams
are formed and coaches are recruited by NSC, in cooperation
with North Texas Soccer Association. Low income students in
Richardson Independent School District (RISD) are provided
access to leagues of multi-cultural soccer teams for children
living near the Dallas Cottonwood Park. In 2003 play was coordinated
by NSC and Dallas North Soccer Association for RISD as part
of the National Soccer Start, for spring and fall soccer.
Players pay a reduced fee. To register a child, please fill
out one of the soccer application forms below.

Summer
Reading (K-12)
NSC
collects and distributes books – serving as a satellite
for the City of Dallas Library Summer Reading Program. This
program is coordinated by NSC volunteers at Dallas Cottonwood
Park and area summer schools in cooperation with Dallas Public
Library. Over 750 children participate in storytelling and
read-aloud activities, plus taking books home to read. See

Dallas
Cottonwood Park Programs
Coordinated
with Dallas Park and Recreation Department, and Fretz Park
Center, these programs provide supervised recreation and informal
education for children and youth. Activities include special
Summer Soccer workshops with Dallas Cup and the Olympic Development
Program (ODP). The “Send a Kid to Camp” expanded
program for youth six and older includes special trips and
adventures.
NSC
provides support via publicity, recruitment of children and
volunteers, referral and staffing, as well as documenting
need. Activities include sports and games, arts and crafts,
and fun in the outdoors, as a part of the supervised drop-in

Nature
Trail
The Cottonwood Nature Trail is located off Maham Road on the
creek side of Cottonwood Park Dallas. Cottonwood Nature Trail
is open to the public during regular park hours. Groups interested
in information about touring the nature trail may contact

Earth
Day
NSC,
Dallas Parks and Recreation, Texas Instruments, and Richardson
Independent School District cosponsor an Earth Day Celebration
at Cottonwood Park Trail for RISD students. Over 2,000 area
elementary-aged students and their teachers participate with
over 50 exhibitors each year. The Earth Day Celebration is
an interactive, fun-filled, and educational event with displays
featuring math, science, the environment, and much more. Potential
