Adventure Time March Update

During Adventure Time we work on educational activities and still have fun doing them. In the month of March we learned about Native Americans. We learned where they came from, their values, traditions, and rituals. We made maps to show the Rocky Mountains, dome shaped houses and Mississippi to Mexico. We made Native American masks with the kids and cut paper flowers. We had so much fun learning about a new culture.

BeTweens March update

The BE-tweens got out on some field trips to show off some of that good character they have been learning this year. We feel it is important to teach these children how to act in school and in public and to respect the people around them. Character building lessons are a part of their curriculum. The month of April will include lessons on safety. We have a police officer coming to speak with the kids about how to stay safe and what to do in case they find themselves in a bad situation.

Saturday – October 22 at Puzzle Zoo, NorthPark Mall (located just outside of Macy’s on the lower level) 8687 N. Central Expressway Dallas, Texas 75225.

10% of all sales at Puzzle Zoon from noon to 6pm on this day will go to benefit Neighborhood Service Council.

We will have face painting, pick a prize from the treasure chest, a gift card raffle basket (featuring gift cards from for a photo session and portrait, toni & guy, $30 walmart, $25 starbucks, 30 Dicks, $25 visa, $50 Barnes & Noble and more!

We will also have stickers and candy for kids. It should be a fun time and 10% of sales go to Neighborhood Service Council so be sure and stop by!

1st Annual Spring Luncheon

The 1st Annual, Neighborhood Service Council Spring Luncheon will be held on May 13th, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn. This is an amazing opportunity to learn more about NSC and all proceeds will benefit NSC & the children we serve. Tanya McDonald, the executive director of the Dallas After School Network will be the guest speaker and board member Kay Reynolds is the honorary chair.

The new NSC van was stolen

Last weekend our new, red van was stolen and used to steal an ATM machine from a local convenience store. The van has been recovered by the police, but there is a good amount of damage and the brand new child car seats that we had just purchased along with all of the van’s bench seats are gone. At NSC we use our two vans everyday to pick up children from several elementary schools and bring them back to the center. This happened the first week back at school 1 van had to pick up all of the children which greatly takes away from their precious time at NSC.

+++UPDATE+++

We got some bad news back from the insurance company. Today we found out that the van is considered “totaled” due to all of the damage from being stolen and used as the getaway vehicle for in an ATM robbery. This means NSC is now back down to 1 van which greatly delays the process off picking up the children from school and taking them back to NSC.

‘Adventure Time’ kids take tour of Dallas Cowboys Stadium

Larry Short, owner of Short & Associates Commercial Contractors generously donated a surprise tour of the new Dallas Cowboys stadium! The trip was a blast as the kids got to tour the locker rooms, luxury suites, press box and play on the field! Channel 8 even came and did a story on the surprise trip.
