Family
Nites
Family Nites are scheduled up to six times each school year.
Sessions are from one-two hours in length with activities
for each family member. Adults and children receive information
and have interaction with a wide variety of community resource
persons. While parents receive needed information on parenting
issues, topics for children range from safety information
to making decorations for up-coming holidays.
Each
session is free, bi-lingual, includes dinner and is co-sponsored
by area organizations and churches. Check What’s
Going On for times, dates and registrations information.
Summer
Free Lunch
In 1989, NSC asked that this free program be established
based on the high percentage of children who qualified for
the free lunch program during the school year. NSC provides
annual documentation of needs, works to establish an easy
access site, recruits volunteers, and helps with the recruitment
of children ages 1 through 18.
The
City of Garland, working with RISD Lunch Program, annually
provides lunches to over 350 children in the Spring Valley
/ Coit Road area Cottonwood Park. See What's
Going On for dates, times and locations.
Health
& Prevention Services
NSC has worked to establish community health and prevention
services at WIC (Women’s, Infants and Children) and
the North
Dallas Clinic. For more information contact WIC
or call (214) 670-7200 or you can go to 7995 LBJ Freeway in
Dallas Suite 201.
In
addition NSC campers learn the importance of health and prevention
through educational activities such as dental care, hair care,
manicures, dressing for warm/cold weather, healthy eating
habits, drug/alcohol awareness, physical fitness and much
more. NSC also has parenting sessions with experts who provide
similar information for parents.
