NSC My Time Teen Camp

Just for teens! My Time Teen Camp is a free day camp for youth entering grades 6 – 10. There is a $4.50 registration fee.

Three sessions available from June 7 – July 27, Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 4:30 pm. My Time Teen Camp offers a full-time sports program with workshops including Tennis, Swimming, Soccer and more!

Additional fun workshops include theater, outdoors skills, career, carnival, music, conflict resolution, crafts, and field trips galore.

NSC Adventure Time Free After School Program

Transportation available to students K-6th grades who attend RISD Academy, Carolyn Bukhair Elementary, and Dobie Primary for free after school fun and to learn new things, Monday – Friday, until 6:00 pm, consistent with Richardson Independent School District Calendar.

Students may apply who attend Northwood, Spring Valley, or Dover, but parents must arrange transportation. Each student will enjoy arts and crafts, recreation, reading, tutoring, computers, trips and games. Making cool things like stained glass fish is just one of the many exciting activities. Parties, computers, and BUG (Bringing Up Grades) are favorites among many students.

Send A Kid To Camp

A free-of-charge, drop-in, summer Dallas Park & Recreation program for youth ages 6-17, conducted Monday - Friday, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm June 4th through July 20th , 2007 (no camp Wednesday, July 4th) at Carolyn Bukhair Elementary and other park sites throughout the city.

Activities include sports, crafts, games, swimming, nature studies, life skills development, enrichment programs and field trips. Free healthy lunches will be provided. For more information call (214) 671-0217

Fretz Park Recreation Center

Fretz Park Recreation Center offers a variety of low cost programs for all ages including sports camps that range from volleyball to a teen summer basketball league, a fashion modeling workshop, arts and crafts, music, beginning golf, Junior Players theatre, Send a Kid to Camp, and much more. Registration for all day camp begins April 24th.

Churchill Recreation Center

Churchill Park offers a variety of low cost programs for all ages this summer including an all day camp from 8 am to 5 pm beginning June 5th, $100 per week/child.

Campbell Green Recreation Center

Campbell Green will offer a variety of opportunities for pre-schoolers to teens. Several Day camps for ages 5-12 are available. One of our more popular camps Discovery Camp Campbell Green for ages 7-12. The camp runs for 10 weeks Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The cost is $170 per camper per week. Camp begins May 30th continues through August 5th.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will have a free concert for Family Fun Night on June 7th starting at 6:30 pm at Campbell Green Park. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and come early for a good seat. Food stands and game booths will be available.

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts

Girl Scouts of Tejas Council

Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas offers year-round programs that serve girls ages 5-17 with emphasis on developing girls’ potential, values, self-esteem, and social responsibility. Girl Scouts has programs in many schools and youth service agencies, in addition to troops and camps.

Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America

Boy Scout Summer Camps available June - July. Mom & Me and Dad & Lad are held on selected weekends. Cherokee Scout Camp, 3-day session camp takes place 4 weeks in Athens, Texas. North Trail District troop in Richardson will hold a Twilight Summer Camp for all registered Cub Scouts at Breckinridge Park June 19th - 23rd, from 4:00-8:30 pm. Twilight Summer Camp for boys who are incoming first graders not registered with Boy Scouts that reside in the Dallas/Richardson area, will be June 21st –23rd , 4:00-8:30 pm. Cost will be $35 per boy and include a Cub Scout Registration Fee. Jobs and Job Skills

English as a Second Language Classes

ESL classes are offered at Spring Valley United Methodist Church. Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Students are required to buy a book; otherwise the class is free. Child care is provided at no chage. For information, please phone Carlos Nascimento at 972-239-9440.

Richland College

Richland College Continuing Educations and Workforce Training Center offers General Equivalency Degree (GED)/Computer Training, Medical Practitioner, A+ Certification, Accounting Specialist, and Achieve Global Training. These programs provide childcare, transportation reimbursement and job placement assistance for Dallas County residents who meet qualification guidelines. Many programs are available for young adults between the ages 17 to 21.

Next GED registration will be May 30th at 9 am, for High School students interested in higher education College bound/College prep training will be offered beginning May 12th at 9 am and every Saturday in May at 9 am call, (972)-761-6803.

Patricia Williams will have a 10- week Saturday Adult GED class from 9 am –3 pm and Sunday from 1- 4pm, May 20th – July 30th classes will be $165. Starting July 10th – September 14th weekday classes will be M, T, TH, from, 6:30 -9:30 pm. Cost will be $165 for the 10 week session.

Working Wonders – Adult Resource Center

Working Wonders assists single parents, displaced homemakers and single pregnant women in reaching their educational and career goals. You must be enrolled in the technical occupation program.

Assistance and services are available if you find yourself in a transitional stage. Services provided include enrollment/registration assistance, academic advising, and assistance in filing financial aid forms, crisis intervention, personal counseling, childcare limited subsidy.

Dallas County Workforce Center

The Richardson Workforce Center in partnership with the Work Source for Dallas County is designed to assist teens and adults with a wide variety of employment and training needs, all at one convenient location.

Workforce Center services include Employment Services, Job Search Assistance, Unemployment Insurance, Child Care Management Services (CCMS) and more. Job Corps for ages 16 to 24 offers basic education and job training.

The state summer nutrition program will be serving breakfast and lunch in six summer schools from May 29th– June 29th for anyone 18 years and younger including Dover and RISD Academy.

Dallas Public Library Book Mobile

Through Outreach Services, the Library on Wheels (LOW) will be coming to Cottonwood Park (8500 Midpark Road, Dallas) every first and third Saturday from 1:30-3:30 pm. The Summer 2006 dates are June 3rd &17th, July 1st&15th, and August 5th & 19th.

Neighborhood Service Council Summer Reading Program

Satellite for the City of Dallas Library Summer Reading Program conducted by Neighborhood Service Council with volunteers at Neighborhood other locations. Children participate in story telling and read-aloud activities, as well as check out books to read at home.

The Dallas Public Library

Mayor’s Summer Reading Program will begin May 19th –July 28th at Dallas Public Libraries as well as a variety of other free programs that will be offered throughout the Dallas Public Library locations this summer.

All children may enroll by registering at one of the Dallas Public Library locations and record the time spent reading or listening to books online. The record log will be provided at the time of sign-up. Just return the log to the library where you registered so your hours may be recorded and prizes awarded.

Dallas Public Library also offers free live online homework tutoring. DASH-Dallas After school Homework Help is available 7 days a week in English from 3-10pm and Monday thru Thursday in Spanish from 3-9pm, DASH allows 4th thru 12th grade students to receive private tutoring via the internet in English, History, Math and Science. You must have a Dallas Public Library card to access the service. Go to the Dallas public library website -> Click on the DASH link -> enter library card number -> choose a grade and subject.

North Dallas Health Center

Provides health services for children 0-10 years of age. Children are examined for proper growth and development along with basic laboratory testing and nutritional guidance. Immunizations are administered to all ages (infants through adults).

Parenting and Family Counseling

NSC Family Nites

Sessions for the entire family to have fun learning more together. Six sessions are offered during the school year. Age appropriate activities, super, and parenting information are provided in this informal educational setting. Community resources and information abound. Family Outreach of Richardson/Plano

Parenting classes (STEP – Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) are offered on- going through the year for $20 per person and $35 for couples. Ongoing programs include community education on anti-victimization programs in schools and other settings; in-home casework for at-risk or stressed families; and mentoring for families that are at-risk for abuse.

City of Dallas Youth Services Office (YSO)

Youth Development Program: Youth Development program engages youth 13-18 in hands-on, interactive activities.

Life skill activities are led by staff and enrichment activities led by skilled professionals in the arts, technology, sports, communications, and more. Our programs range from drop-in activities to skill-building programs.

Neighborhood Youth and Family Counseling

Provides counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, and families with issues of substance abuse. Relationship counseling, mental health concerns, victim’s assistance, mediation, a first offender program, and tobacco and alcohol programs.

Provides free English and Spanish counseling for victims of sexual assault, and domestic family violence. Spanish counselors are available if needed. Sliding-fee scale is used.

Network of Community Ministries, Inc

Summer school tuition scholarships-through school counselors only- school supplies for all ages (even college) available at the end of July through Labor Day.

Soccer Start Olympic Development Players will be conducting a soccer skills training camp on June 11, 13, and 15 from 10:00 – 12:00 at Cottonwood Park Dallas 8500 Midpark.

Soccer Start - Neighborhood Service Council

Neighborhood Service Council (NSC) organizes recreational soccer for boys and girls ages 4 to 18. NSC collaborates with Dallas North Soccer Association (DNSA) to provide low-income students in Richardson Independent School District (RISD) access to multi-cultural soccer league play. Low-income RISD players are part of the National Soccer Start Program and therefore pay a reduced fee for spring and fall soccer. Scholarships are available.

Dallas Cup Skills Camp

Coaches from all over the world will be conducting a soccer skills training camp this summer scheduled June 19, 1:00 - 3:30 pm.. Children will receive a soccer ball and t-shirt for participating in this exciting program.

Richardson High School Summer Sports Camps

Football camp will be August 1st-3rd, for grades two – six from 9:00-11:00 am, for seven – eight grades from 4:00-6:00 pm, cost $35. Summer Sports Strength Camp (Learn To Do It Right) for grades nine – twelve, June 11th – July 26th, HS athletes session is from 7:00 am- 9:00 am. Ninth grade athletes session is from 8;30 am- 10:00 am. Deadline for Strength Camp registration will be June 11th. Cost $120 per week. American Red Cross

American Red Cross has several free safety presentations for youth that can be scheduled for various organizations.

Youth safety presentations include: Masters of Disasters, Longfellow’s Whale Tale, Scrubby Bear, And First Aide for Little People, Home Alone, and Play It Safe: Be a Gun Proof Kid. Babysitter’s Training Classes are fee-based programs.

Dallas Police Department

Richardson Police Department

Crime Prevention offers many different programs for Richardson citizens year round. Some programs include: Apartment Crime Watch, Neighborhood Crime Watch, Business Crime Watch, Volunteer Programs, Citizen Police Academy, Personal Safety, and Volunteers in Policing.

The Richardson Police Department also offers home insurance inspection at no cost.

Richardson will have its annual National Night Out on August 7th from 6:30 to 9pm; bring a canned good or non- perishable food item and all donations will go towards the Richardson’s Network of Ministry Community.

Richardson will also hold an afternoon event of dinner and dancing on August 1st at 12 pm.
